Securing ghetto pensions under the ZRBG is the field in which we were originally specialized — and which remains our absolute core area to this day. Over years and decades, we have conducted several thousand proceedings, giving us experience that is second to none in this field.

The Legal Basis

The Act on the Payment of Pensions from Employment in a Ghetto (ZRBG) came into force in 2002 and allows the recognition of employment periods completed by persecuted persons in a ghetto during the Nazi era. Under Section 1 ZRBG, the employment must have been taken up of the person’s own free will, performed for remuneration, and located in a ghetto within the National Socialist sphere of influence.

The landmark rulings of the Federal Social Court of 2 and 3 June 2009 significantly expanded the scope of the Act; a 2014 amendment additionally enabled the retroactive payment of pensions back to 1997.

The Circle of Beneficiaries

Eligible are persecuted persons within the meaning of the Federal Compensation Act who engaged in remunerated employment in a ghetto. Where claims persist, they may also be asserted by the heirs after the death of the entitled person.
